Mapper 2 can display information over the internet from other servers. This is an index of some of the most useful data layers and live feeds that can be used with Mapper 2.
Deepwater Horizon GIS Layers
Mapper 2 can display map layers from other ArcGIS Servers on the internet. Many different agencies participating in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response have published GIS resources on the internet. Here are some of the currently available resources.

ESRI is maintaining a Deepwater Horizon section on their ArcGIS Online Resource Center. Additional map layers are available by visiting them.
WMS Layers
Mapper 2 can display WMS layers from may different sources. WMS is an open protocol for sharing GIS map layers over the internet.
Weather Layers
Iowa State University’s Iowa Environmental Mesonet makes available several weather layers based on National Weather Service data. We have packaged them up here for easy use in Mapper 2, but the data is produced and supported by Iowa State University.

GeoRSS Feeds
GeoRSS feeds can be made available for all users by the Mapper Administrator or they can be loaded dynamically by any user. When adding a GeoRSS feed to Mapper 2, a feed URL and a feed icon are needed. The feed icon will be used as the icon on the map representing each item in the data feed.
Hurricane Tracks (NWS)
This data feed will display hurricane tracks for active storms in the Atlantic. If no storms are currently active, nothing will be displayed on the map. While Tucuxi compiles this feed, all data is created and maintained by the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center. Visit them for more information.

River Gauges by state (NWS)
This feed will display all of the National Weather Service river gauges for your state on a map. Each river gauge can be clicked to view the current flood stage. While Tucuxi compiles this data feed, all data is collected and owned by the NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. Visit them for more information.
The link below is for river gauges in California. Please change “ca” in the link below to the two letter postal abbreviation for your state to view data for your own state. Ensure that the state code is in lowercase letters. It is case-sensitive.

Fire Hot Spots (MODIS)
Active fire/hotspot detections updated hourly based on NASA satellites. This GeoRSS data feed is compiled by Tucuxi but all data is generated and owned by the NASA/University of Maryland MODIS Hotspot / Active Fire Detections program. Visit them for more information.

Earthquakes (USGS)
The USGS publishes several earthquake feeds which are filtered views of the same data. You can choose to display earthquakes magnitude 2.5 and above or only earthquakes magnitude 5.0 and above. For M2.5 and above, you can also choose whether you’d like to display earthquakes in the last day or all earthquakes in the past seven days.
Please note: The USGS recently (7/8/2010) updated these links. If you are not able to see the earthquake feeds in Mapper Professional, please ensure that the URL you have configured is up to date.

US Border Wait Times for Mexico and Canada
This will put all land-based US ports of entry on your map. Each port will display the current status and wait times. Information will include number of lanes open, wait times for regular and SENTRI/NEXUS/FAST lanes, etc.

Example Map Icons
Mapper uses 32×32 pixel image files as the icon for each WebEOC Status Board. The files can be .png, .jpg, or .gif files. Several example icons are included with the application, but a library of additional sample icons can be downloaded here.
